Functional Health and Traditional Naturopathy Services
Life is for living, but that’s hard to do if you’re not functioning at 100%. Symptoms like low energy, brain fog, gut issues, stubborn weight gain, joint pain, anxiety, and/or depression all suggest you’re losing function in one or more systems. Instead of focusing on your symptoms, start asking the question ‘Why?’
Our health issues are often the result of imbalances in the body, which are due to a lifetime of different lifestyle choices and environmental factors that push the body out of balance. Our Functional Health Approach helps you to identify root causes that are impeding your health and causing these imbalances. We do this through functional testing and gaining an understanding of all the inputs that make you who you are today. This information helps us to focus in on particular functional tests and create a personalized, step-by-step change plan based on your exact biomarkers. Most importantly, we then support you so that you are able to achieve real and successful change, leading you to better health.
The focus of our Functional Health program is to help you move from poor or neutral health toward good and even optimal health. It’s a choice we can each make—to be proactive with health rather than reactive.
Our Functional Health focus is to determine the underlying root causes, that are negatively impacting your health.
Years of a poor diet, stress, gut issues, lack of movement, sleep problems, problematic relationships, GMOs, toxic thoughts, toxins and heavy metals, genetics, inflammation, loneliness, nutritional deficiencies, and being stuck in certain emotions like anger, fear and anxiety, are all potential root causes of imbalances in the body. Those imbalances can be experienced anywhere in the body and can be different for each person. For example, years of eating badly may result in digestive issues and fatigue for one person and hormonal and sleep issues for another.
Seeing genetics as a root cause, you might think you’re stuck with your genetics and it’s just what it is. That is simply not always true. In recent years, neurobiology has shown that our health potential is not locked into our genes. According to Jeffrey S. Bland in his article Functional Medicine Past, Present and Future, “Functional interaction of our lifestyle, diet, environment, behaviors and social structure, with our genome and epigenome greatly determines our health outcomes. In other words, the choices you make do matter and can have a huge impact on your health” (Bland, 2022)
We believe that your health matters.
In the past, the causes of our stress were very different to those of today. Depending on how far back you go we knew what might attack us—think tigers, lions and so on. We were in danger and the body went into flight or fight in order to survive.
Environmental toxins, poor quality food, less activity and more sitting, and EMFs all add stress that our body has to deal with. In fact, just about everything that’s made our life easier (think convenient) has come at a huge cost to our health. These stressors are largely coming from our external environment. At the same time, the body also has to handle the stress that comes from our internal environment. This internal stress can be caused by high sugar levels, high blood pressure, a gut not functioning correctly or a liver overworking. Self Care has never been more important. If you have symptoms, then think of it akin to the red light on your car dashboard flashing a warning. You would take your car in for service. Your body is asking for that same attention.
Often when we are focused on other things in life, we don’t make the time to put our attention on our own healthcare. Your focus may be on your partner, family, friends, your job, finances, trauma you’ve experienced, and even emotions and thoughts that you find yourself stuck in. It’s easy to put yourself last when there are so many things clamoring for your attention. We put you and your health first, so that you can live your life to the fullest.
