Did You Know?

Chronic conditions may make the entire nervous system more sensitive. Our brain is programmed to associate pain with danger. When we experience prolonged physical pain, the brain will frequently encode the experience as a traumatic experience. Understanding these links and intentionally targeting them in treatment empowers new healing to occur through the use of trauma informed, neuroscience based, and resiliency focused tools and techniques.

Altering how we think about physical pain can impact our experience of it, including its intensity. Neuroscience has helped us develop techniques to rapidly and effectively build the coping skills necessary to thrive while managing the symptoms of chronic pain and illness.

Changing how we think about pain and illness has the ability to shift our functional experience of it. Changing our thoughts creates a new opportunity for self-empowerment and proactive healing.

Humans are wired to seek out connection and understanding from others. Being with people, and especially those who share a similar experience to us, will make us feel less isolated.

CONNECT – A Group for People Managing Chronic Pain & Illness
“Turn your wounds into Wisdom”
– Oprah Winfrey
CONNECT is a semi-structured 12-week therapeutic group designed for people managing chronic pain and illness. In this group, you will connect with other people who share similar struggles and gain support, knowledge, and insight from a neuroscience based, trauma informed perspective. We will explore how the body and brain process pain as well as illness and their impact on our lives, while building a toolkit of powerful neuroscience based coping skills to support your ability to thrive in today’s world in the company of like-minded peers.
CONNECT exists due to the fact that despite a 2016 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that 20% of US adults experience chronic pain and/or illness, those who live with these experiences often feel isolated and disconnected from others who share their experience.
If you are suffering from chronic conditions and have struggled to find others who are coping with similar experiences, you are not alone. Join us on a journey of healing and self-empowerment. CONNECT is designed to provide a space for people living with and managing chronic pain and illness to engage with one another while enhancing social, emotional, and psychological resilience and coping skills. We will explore how to leverage the impact of thoughts on physical and emotional wellbeing, the dynamics of caring for self and others, and the potential within activating innate inner strengths on our own behalf.
